The International Business Council – IBC

The International Business Council was established as a non-profit organization in December 2000.  It grew out of an initiative of the German Embassy in Kyrgyzstan – and began as an “informal club” where businessmen, investors in the Kyrgyz economy, could meet and discuss issues of common interest.

The Celestial Mountains Tour Company was one of the early members of IBC and the inaugural meeting was held in the Conference room of the Silk Road Lodge.  Two of our investors were founders of the organization when the charter was eventually registered and have served on the Management Board of IBC at various points in its history.

The membership of IBC includes the major investors in the Kyrgyz Republic and has grown to include a wide range of local and international businesses with a combined investment of over one billion US dollars in the Kyrgyz economy, as well as a number of International organizations such as the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

As well as promoting the common interests of members, IBC’s mission is to make the Kyrgyz Republic a more attractive investment location by promoting good business legislation and efficient business practices, working in partnership with the government of the Kyrgyz Republic and other local and foreign organizations.

Members must confirm their commitment to support the IBC mission and conduct their business activities in accordance with good business legislation and efficient business practice.

IBC has strong recognition in Government and amongst the International Finance Institutions, Embassies, and Donor Agencies as a key player in the process of economic reform.  Amongst the activities organized by IBC are:

  • Regular monthly meetings;
  • A bi-weekly update ‘Law & Reality’;
  • A quarterly journal, ‘Investment Now’;
  • Social events;
  • Quarterly Surveys on the Business Environment;
  • Consultations with government on investment issues, taxation, regulations, social development,  tourism, developments in legislation and many other issues;

Both “The Celestial Mountains Tour Company” and “The Celestial Mountains Guesthouse” in Naryn are members, and play an active role in its affairs.

I was one of the founders of IBC when it registered its charter and has served on the Management Board for most of its existence.
