A new website … www.gk.kg

October 31st, 2009 Sections: Websites

This is to tell you about a new Website That We, at the Celestial Mountains Tour Company, Have Launched: www.gk.kg – Good Cause Kyrgyzstan.

Unlike our other websites which are concerned with tourism in Kyrgyzstan or our hotels in Bishkek and Naryn, this site will present information about a series of good causes: charities or other organizations worthy of, and in need of, support.

The reason for deciding to launch the site was that we receive a large number of requests for help. Most of these requests are from worthy causes and it is always difficult to decide which projects to support, and to what extent.

Sometimes the requests that we receive are for specific projects but on other occasions it is a general appeal. Sometimes, but not always, the help that is needed is financial: sponsorship or for an event such as a summer camp for children from disadvantaged homes, or donations towards the cost of repairing a heating system before the onset of winter. On other occasions the assistance requested is items such as stationery, old office furniture to equip a study room in an orphanage, seeds to be planted in a garden, or food items to be distributed to pensioners.

In order to complete their proposed projects, it is necessary to seek support from a range of sponsors. Sometimes, this proves to be a problem as the organizations do not always have a way of presenting information about themselves, (apart from in the letter requesting assistance), and one of the ways in which we feel that we can help is to provide a platform where they can do this.

Information on the site is presented in two languages: Russian and English.

At the moment we have just started work on it and there are only a few organizations and projects presented, although others are in preparation.

We are not associated with any of the “good causes” featured on the site, other than by sponsoring and administering the site. We do not accept donations, represent or enter into correspondence on behalf of, or about specific projects featured on the website. Instead, contact details for each of the organizations are presented on the individual pages.

Of course, such a website is only useful if it has a range of suitable “good causes”, (… if you have suggestions of suitable “good causes” that could be included then please let us know on: gk @ celestial. com.kg) … and if people actually look at it … so, please, take a look and help to spread the news.
