This was originally included in an email “postcard” sent out on July 16th, 2010 – What planet are you from?
| Admin: Can I take this opportunity to say: | |
| 1. | The postcard is a little early this week … I normally write the email on Friday and “sleep on it” over night, before tidying it up and then sending it out on Saturdays. This week I am taking the opportunity to accompany a group to Issyk Kul, and also to take the kids. (I am not sure when I’ll get another chance.) |
| 2. | Not everyone received last week’s postcard. Sorry. The reason is that they were rejected by the hotmail spam filter … so those who have hotmail accounts did not receive the message. I have been looking into how to solve this problem and hope I have found a solution so I hope everyone gets this week’s. |
| 3. | When I began sending out the weekly postcard, I simply went through my address book and included people that I thought might be interested in the events unfolding here … family and friends, clients, (past, present and prospective – people who have made enquiries), and others. Since then, I have heard from some people who have asked to be included in the distribution list … maybe they had seen a copy quoted on the internet, or had been passed a copy by a friend or colleague. No problem, I have included them.On the other hand, one person has asked to be removed from the list. Once again, no problem … if you wish to stop receiving the postcards, just drop me a line to let me know and I will remove you. |
| 4. | Feedback is always welcome … Thank you to everyone who has sent me comments so far. Some people have written with questions and comments about what I have written … or suggestions about things that would like to hear more about. I’ll do my best to try and answer them either personally or in subsequent postcard. Not everyone will agree with me and my view on what is happening … but I write about the situation as I see it at the time and I accept that it is perfectly possible that I am mistaken. |
| 5. | The postcards are posted on my website: ianbek.kg. As well as the regular updates on my take of events and the current situation here in Kyrgyzstan, there are other posts on a variety of topics. This week, for example, there are posts on: the “annus horribilis” that I have been experiencing this year; my views on spam and spam filters, (prompted by what happened to last week’s postcard); an initiative to try and attract Chinese tourists to Kyrgyzstan; and some thoughts about competition.I have also started a Twitter feed, @Bishkekpostcard, so that people can follow the latest entries. |
