Apparently, Kyrgyzstan won a competition for "the best historical coin".

It has been reported that the 10 som coin commemorating "The Silk Road, issued in 2011, won a competition organized by the publisher Krause Publications to find the best Historical Coin.

Apparently other contenders for the prize included coins from Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, the Falkland Islands, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.

Kyrgyzstan also submitted a coin called "Peace for our children" in the category "The most inspiring coin", but this section was won by a Polish coin released in honour of the 100th anniversary of the Society for the Blind.
