This year one of the deputies has suggested that the state symbols, (Flag, Gerp - the State Seal or Coat of Arms, and the National Anthem), should be replaced and a commission to consider alternatives has been established.

A comment on one of the news agency websites (AKIPress), included some additional information about the history of the adoption of the flag:

After the country gained sovereignty and since the country did not have the documented state flag, the leadership of the country established the commission led by writer Kazat Akmatov to design a new flag. In winter 1992 the parliamentarians began consideration of proposed designs. The country planned to adopt a new flag before entry into the United Nations Organization, i.e. before 1 March 1992. However, creation of a new state flag was painful and full of intrigues. The final version was like the current flag, it only had the blue tunduk (a hole on the top of the yurt where smoke goes out) with a white sun on the blue background.

Parliamentarian and writer Tologon Kasymbekov expressed dissatisfaction over absence of natives from his rayon among authors of the design of the flag. He mobilized a group of parliamentarians from the south saying the blue color is a mourning color in some parts of southern Kyrgyzstan. The answer to discontent of southerners was found in the lines of the Manas epic, which reads that Manas led his troops under the banner of a red color.

The commission for adopting new state symbols, has received several proposals of designs for a new flag which have been published. You can see them on:

Sorry, but the text is in Russian, however the designs speak for themselves. Needless to say, there has been a certain amount of discussion, not much of it in favour of any of the new designs.

If the colour of the current flag, Red, was the colour of the Battle Standard of the legendary Kyrgyz hero, Manas, then the colours Blue and White also have historical connections with the nomadic Kyrgyz. The colour blue, used in the original design of 1992 and several of the newly proposed designs represents the sky. Unfortunately, in the south, it is also the colour of morning. It was the colour of the standard used by of one of the Kanat, (“wings”), of the Kyrgyz tribes whilst white was the colour of the standard used by another.
