For the record:

I went back yesterday ... a little later than planned, my return was supposed to be a week later, but was delayed for a variety of reasons.

Anyway, I am pleased to report that they've sorted it out ... the menu now clearly says: 15% ... so there's no discrepancy.

I take my hat off to the management ... they listened ... and acted. Well Done!

I take your point.

I have, however, explained to the establishment - at least to the waitress - what I thought they needed to do to "put the situation right. Let's see if they act on what I told them. If not - then maybe I will write another postcard and name them.

There is a difference, however, between being a Restaurant Reviewer, as you were in Armenia, and my "sounding off" on ianbek ... it's the job of the reviewer to describe their experiences - the good and the bad - to help inform potential clients about the different choices available to them. I, on the other hand, was simply taking the opportunity to give vent to my feelings over a particular problem that I had encountered.

I definitely agree with you about the Service Charge ... I don't like it and think it should be included in the cost of the meal on the menu and not "an extra". Interestingly, there is a big "consumer backlash" against such "additional extras" in the hotel industry ... here's a link to one story from just today as an example: http://www.e-tid.com/News-Home/Hotel-add-ons-could-cost-up-to-%C2%A351-a-day.aspx

You SHOULD name the establishment or keep your comments to yourself. It is unhelpful to comment on anything without naming it! Be a mover and a shaker Ian. More open society changes things for the better. FYI I used to do a weekly restaurant visit and critique in Armenia and I am sure it was instrumental in making for better service, conditions and a healthy competitive environment. The bonus for me was that the newspaper paid me for the cost of the meal :-) Best wishes and keep fighting the service charge, which incidentally rarely finds its way to the waiter/waitress! Its normally the fat cat owner fleecing the clientelle.
