Hi, Ian,

I've been wondering why you kept silent for a while. Now I know. So, you've been operated on in Bishkek and survived! Does it mean that the health care system in KG is OK or was your body strong enough to survive the surgery there? Anyways, I'm glad to learn that you're recovering. Hopefully, there'll be no more complications. Many thanks for the updates! All my family are sending their best wishes to you. By the way, there's one Brit in Russia who's been living there for over 20 years and has become quite popular on Russian TV. You can read about him here:

good to hear that your health is improving - it made me think well of the Kyrgyz health system though; here you would be out the door a day or two after the operation - no time and no bed-space for languishing. My niece in Adelaide had a baby last year and went home that afternoon! It's true that her husband was at home but even so...

Teachers in Kyrgyzstan have it tough by the sound of it - when I was in Cambodia, I was told that teachers sell pens, pencils, paper, chewing gum etc to the students to make up for low wages. A taxi driver told me that his children's teacher had waited some years for a transfer to the city - city schools are popular because the students' families are usually wealthier and the students can afford to buy more meaning the teachers' income is higher. Puts things in perspective!

Glad to read that you have recovered again -- at least largely!

Hope things go well in Kyrgyzstan -- or at least somehow well.

Wish you a complete recovery soon
