Blimey! 'I think the plan was for Bakiev's people to seize the South...'. Whose plan? Bakiev's? Or Bakiev's + x ? Presumably the latter... in which case... who/what is x ? I ask because this closure of the border with Kazakhstan... that is pretty unambiguously hostile to the interim government and pro Bakiev. So what is Nazarbaev playing at? Presumably the interim government's decision not, as yet, to criticise the Kazakhs for this action, which amounts to blockade... well, that's a sign of weakness, no? Is anyone making any noises about this border business? What about the WTO, the UN? Isn't anyone asking any questions about this?
Saw someone on internet tv, I think some organisation called RT... saying things are difficult but support for the government is solid. Actually quite impressive to see someone so articulate and intelligent putting the interim government's line across. Also, however, disturbing that the government feels it has to go about its PR in this way... although... maybe, on the contrary, it's a good sign. One of the things that has struck me about Roza's administration is that it seems to be the first to not avail itself of the standard PR and control mechanisms (i.e., the media and the police/army) whenever the opportunity presents itself. Gives it a flavour of people power. Maybe this is my imagination though.
Anyway, thanks for your updates and your good wishes.

You not worried about Russian and US dithering in support of the new regime? About the continued closure of the Kazakh border? I think it all looks a good deal more sinister than people tend to say...
But anyway Ian, thanks again for all your news.

Thanks a lot Ian for your report.

It helps us here to feel the "ambiance" of Kyrgyzstan after the "revolution". I really appreciate also the tone you are using for writing such report. Ishen is calling me often and I can put the reports of you two together and I suppose to have quite a sound base of the today kyrgyz realities.

I just keep my fingers crossed and hope this government wil succeed. I know that the task is huge and very critical.
We have seen very positive reports about the Rosa here in the press.

Take care and have a good week-end. Here for these last two weeks, weather has been just ugly...rain, cold, cloudy,
